palm pilot

a new book of leaves
unadorned down freshly fallen
the size of a palm
headlines heart lines
others not yet drawn
how to walk in the snow without carving a path?
dancing between flakes...fingertips...ether
lighter than slighter than what a body holds
slivering silvering spirit
a blank page and all its promise
a new book of leaves

First flakes

10/10 and swaddling down
Eiders loons and swans among us
Putting the tendrils to bed
13/100 cast off on route 1
Three coppers one bluenose silver
Change...who needs it?
10/10 and swaddling down
The hurry of the flurry
The power of the shower
Change...we need it

Skein

A line in the sky is drawing down today
Nestled below where the berries are sleeping
A thin secret freeway from the ether to the other
Wax up your soles and shimmy down
Down to where it all converges
In the waning sun
In the golden light
In the threads that listen
Secret knots and bolts of dreams

Seasoned kitty

If I were in my autumn season and it was a blustery morning in mid September and I was boarding the bus with a giant bag of pop cans and the bus was packed and I had to wait for several minutes as the bus lurched on while some folks shuffled to (nicely) make room for me I would take a moment once I finally settled myself seated with all of my goods to be thankful that I had the foresight to wrap myself that morning in my scarf festooned with nesting cats cats cats all cuddly and cosy in comforting muted shades of red white and blue.

Purple heart

Yesterday riding the 1
A random act of lovely
One thin bill passed from hand to hand
A tenner a purple note
Given unconditionally
The holder hopped off on the old highway road
And scooted into the A and Dub
Pappa Momma Baby
Burgers for all
Yesterday on the 1

On eleventh ...

Your wee feet hopped into high gear
And sped you safely on
Ears perked for bearings
Hind hoppers for fortitude
All the blessings of a bun bun
Hop away bun bun
stash in some grasses
Hop away
Hope you hopped away

sultry

there
in the air
hanging low and longingly
mountain ash berries nearly kissing the ground
puckering up for busses to come:
pressed lips in autumn

the promise of rip roaring skies that never
materialize

cut close
come closer
hedge your bets
and wait...

a summer of patience
wait
just wait

slicing

late last night
early this morning
i was slicing oranges for you
latitudinal sections
laid out lovingly
on the plate
and gone
late last night
early this morning
i remembered what it was to dream
and have you here
again

red ones

there is a cabal of robins in the hood
77 so far and counting
red breasts brimming
swaying
seizing the day
worms beware
the red ones are coming

Monarch

Preparing to depart
Honing home
Under wing
Memories of communion
Connection links
Wings on the wind
In the Heartland
Strips of Rolls Bentleys
Ls careening
Butterfly kisses off the Gold Coast
Winding wind
Honing home

mobility

and as below so above
robin 28 sprite and springing
360 pirouette
the man in the hat yesterday at the book shop
and again today on 18th
all strangers and friends converge
we all are traveling
motoring
flying
soaring
on the inside
soaring
so ring
ring
ring
ringing home

Licorice sky

Purple doesn't taste like grapes
So much as lavender kisses
Sugar ropes and thrill gum
Rain clouds full of snow flakes
And platform shoes
Purple tastes like shag lint
(in a good way)
And frozen chive blossoms
Thawed in the sun
Is 'warm better'?
Purple wagging tongues will tell

Please ring bell before passing

Wake us when you go
Please ring bell before passing
Sunshine over snow
Please ring bell before passing
Peal away the skin
Leave us with something delicious and delicate
Flaming within
Please ring bell before passing
When you're ready to overtake
A little tinkle before passing
Hoarfrost on the cake
Please ring bell before passing
If only In your heart
We'll hear it loud and clear
A tiny ring before passing
Departed forever near

jan jan

This first month grey
Gets a little long in the tooth
A dental film that keeps on looping
Relentless in minutes hours days of gloom
Rooms to roam and get lost in
Sliding down the hall in socks
And driving with EFE turned up high
Helps to beat away the blues
Brushing if not flossing
The snow is melting on the bird feeder
The squirrel is maxxed out
Tall tail
Peanuts claimed maimed devoured
Putting the yam jam in jan jan
Hawaiian impatiens impatient for spring

New Year's Day Wasp

On the 53rd parallel
The night of the first
Wings, hums and stinger
A groggy guest mid-winter
harbinger of industry
And slumbers
Word nests and wispy blankets
Unexpected visits from ethereal friends
Fading paper whites and crisp yellow jackets
There's a place for you next to the pomegranates
No need for resolutions
Fly as you are
