Web in Front

When you find yourself converging at a monument on Elgin
Under threatening skies (of varying pending kinds)
Convening with kindred souls
And embark on a journey
Route march
That winds its way through major thoroughfares
And Market ways
Buoyed by honks of solidarity
Comforting to know that along for the ride
Is one wee spider anchored on to the sign you're holding
'Activism is not a crime'
Block upon block upon block
Wee achranid hangs on
Deposited gently just before Sussex
One of the best fortunes of all time (so far):
'Never wear your best pants when you go to fight for freedom'
But always bring your best totem friends when you go to fight for freedom

wrestling with the impressive crop of dandelions this afternoon
greeted by a wee bug both familiar and new to me
the shape of a ladybug or ladybird depending on where you land
but cream coloured a little like caramel with a touch of bronze
it landed and stayed on my arm as I set to work unearthing our yellow blossom friends
hours later...inside alongside the kavalier...wee bug reappeared scaling the wall
promptly escorted outside into the waiting bounty of mugo sheltered begonia
possibly invasive but beautifully so

Crimson wings

a little red bird went on a journey
across plains mountains valleys
and landed on an island
a vista not far from the sea
and on the island the little red bird found sanctuary in a garden
with irises, lilies and greenery
and so the little red bird decided to stay
to feather her nest and nuzzle in
to the garden near the waves

Tucking in

the smell of salt
and soap
the brush of an air dried towel
boughs lilting upward
a panorama drive by
the sum of little things
adding up
rendering and remembering
that all in hand is not possibly everything
but that maybe all things are possible

against a may evening dusk light
unfold the lilacs
bring blossoms into being
and yes
all things are possible

32 33 34
It's possible that 33 and 34 were the same robin
The annual count is not so scientific as it is
Branch to branch scurrying across the lawn
Out of sight for a moment or two
Count yourself a new sighting
Freshly dressed
Jaunty red vest
Jaunty red breast
No one runs quite like the robins

Quelo spinner

Beetling along on Baseline
Destination: begonias, heliotrope, lantana, fuschia, dahlias
Tucked in the boot and back again
Other city limits
Pulling up and finding a passenger
Tiny green spider along for the ride
Weaving in and out of traffic
Hanging on
Skeins threads ahead

Branching out

one day a little bird said to another bird
'hey...maybe we should fly a new way'
and the one bird and the other bird did
and charted a new flight pattern
a lot of other birds---those of the flocking variety
continued on
flying on
following migratory routes long established
but wearying
and in the days that passed more and more birds began wondering
and questioning
could there be another way
down to down beak to beak feather to feather
carving a new way through spirit and ether

we went to sleep and dreamed of something for the future
and woke up to a new way
wings for today
wings for tomorrow
velvet ponds

I think if you want to eat a grape
You should eat a grape
And if you want to eat an apple
You should eat an apple
But if you want to eat an apple that tastes like grapes
And you find that in the grocery store
Packaged tightly in heavy plastic
Then someone somewhere has a little too much time on their hands
And that feats of engineering might be put to better use
But that's just me
