serenades

heard but unseen
robin songs
flowing down from treetops
as the fuzzer catnaps
the afternoon
away

spongophoria

oceanographers have reported recent sightings of an elusive sea sponge with surprising attributes.  the  sponges tend to gather in clusters or 'bumpflets' at great depths surfacing only on full and new moons.  they are believed to exist on detritus and have been slowly but surely eroding the edges of the plastic vortex (also know as 'invading the invaders').  although fewer such sightings have been confirmed, the sponges are also known to have consumed vast quantities of petrol products and in the process glisten like rainbows on the waves.  scientists are continuing to study the sponges in the hopes that they may one day be cultivated and put to use on land soaking up grease, grime and greed:  euphoria for ophoria.

cygnus signals

so you find yourself walking down a street
a street very much like one you once lived by
it is both familiar and unknown to you
but feels welcoming as you cross the street
you walk into a little dip in the sidewalk
which leads to a wall
and you stand on your tiptoes to look over the wall
and looming large in the sky
like a bright white dirigible
is the neck and wing tips of a giant swan
and it takes your breath away
you decide to carry on with your journey
and make your way to a place where many people are meeting
not quite a celebration but a peaceful gathering of kindred spirits
you make your way through a room and towards a patio
because what you want more than anything is to return outside
for one more glimpse of that amazing swan
bathing the sky in soft white light and then
you wake up

spring snow

a brief return to winter
and a little reminder
that bit by bit
we are all
melting

last call at the lower lumbar

icy cold shots followed up by
steamy water bottles
of various shapes and sizes
oh how we love you
Lyle Lyle Crocodile

just when you wonder
'how the hell did we get into this anyway...?'
a little piercing jolt brings you back
as you struggle to pull yourself into wools and cottons
threading the needle that is now your contorted self

maybe jump starting a new fitness regime
(zero to Sixty)
wasn't the most brilliant idea after all
resurrecting a pair of decade old orthotics
into the flaneur mix up and down the Bar
and over drives
really really Over Drives

in the scheme of things this is nothing
a little blip on the radar

wake me up when the sonar signals
say it's okay to press on
business as usual
to bend down and pick up the kitten
for cuddles and kisses
just like any other day

spring on the 53rd parallel

dirt dirt dirt
and gravel everywhere
what was laid down in snowstorms
now in heaps and piles
empty cigarette packs and the odd beer can
butts butts butts
the tips of tulips and snowdrops
and tiny rabbit pellets
bamboo chime serenades
in early April breezing
all around more brown than green
but turning quickly

enjoying it all
for now
in this the transition
the gritty grimy in between
