a single strand
of lights
next door
on a winter
full moon
night
Wisdom is believed to be
the world's oldest
wild bird
a Laysan albatross
at 74 years old
she recently laid
an egg
~
one wise
and
wondrous
mama
fallen leaves rustling
crinkling on
pavement
~
folks struggling to get
by
~
as the fall sun
sets
a band of pink
in the western sky
~
wishes for kindly dawns
greeting all of us
tomorrow
a moth on the window
tonight
dipping below freezing
tomorrow
find some leaves
some eaves
some shelter
little winged one
fly
fly
fly
a few
more
days
flowers are plants
vegetables are plants
fruits are plants
berries are plants
grasses are plants
bushes are plants
weeds are plants
~
all plants are plants
Any moment now
Send in the doves
Brandish love
Banish bombs
Send in the doves
Wield compassion
Eradicate hate
Godspeed
Pry apart fists
Lay down arms
Open hearts
Palms
Bearing olive branches
Send in the doves
Douse the flames
Bestow calm
Any moment now
And forever more
Peace be upon us
Rush in
Usher in
Send in the doves
high up on
treetop
a month to the day
of the beginning of spring
the first sighting
rush in
usher in
wing wing wing
one duck in the backyard
yesterday
another one
today
enroute
or
on spec for digs?
FYI
the river is
that
way...
you hear them
before you see them
but then your heart skips
a beat with joy
listening to their
sweet song
and knowing that
once again
for another year
the robins
have
returned
the birds are planning
to return
and sing their songs
and soothe our souls
come back soon
fly back soon
small feathered
ones
and now
after so many days
of punishingly cold weather
temperatures are rising
the sun is shining
and most welcoming
in the air
the sweet sound
of
birds
closing my eyes
to envision this (now) snow shrouded scape
months from now
at the midway point of the year
bubbling up
in the summer sun
with a yard full
of wild
rioting
daisies
the berries on the mountain ash are still
the snow filled clay flower pots on the patio are still
the branches of the aspen poplar are still
the hanging gazebo bird feeder is still
the cones on the mugo pine are still
the tiptops of the cedars are still
the frost on the windowpane is still
the sun is shining
it is bitterly cold
and everything
is utterly
perfectly
still
~
too cold
too cold for birds
too cold for squirrels
too cold for walkers
too cold for delivery drivers
too cold for pet dogs + cats
too cold for sledders
too cold for houseless folks
here/anywhere/everywhere
too
too
cold
