Wishing

it is soft and golden here
and quite still
in the way that a late windless afternoon can be
and i hope it is that way for you
wherever you are
that it is lovely
peaceful
and memorable
the stillness of being...
still

Dentition

something unsettling when you chip a tooth
at first the sensation that maybe all is not
as it was
but maybe something lodged...dislodged?
finding a wayward way
but the tongue tells
speaks out that something is not as it was
ragged jagged uneven
wondering now where the remnants are
moving their way along the stream
tributary
river of me

Cotton

i don't know if it's the sun, the autumn turning foliage or something about flight patterns, but birds keep flying into our windows.  robins, sparrows and others.  the contact with the panes must be painful and makes a heart wrenching thud sound.  in my dreams tonight, i plan to start weaving thick blankets to cover all the coverings so that when they come around again they will be softly welcomed ...safe and tucked...a brief respite before they continue on their way...

Dryocopus pileatus jr.

rustling around in the dogwood
it's easy to get distracted by sparrows
and the hording squirrel
(how many pine cones can he possibly need anyway???)
flitting about from branch to branch
finding just the right purchase
and then eureka! peck peck peck peck peck
peck peck peck
peck peck
all in a day's work

Eutaschian tubes

Little filaments
Whittling down in down
Ear to pillow pillow to ear
Soft tracks
Boots in snow

Monday night sonics

tires spraying
rain soaked asphalt
Supro Corandao
new stylings wending their way from the basement
socks on socks
a purr or two
bisqued clay vertebrae on woven wire
'come decorate the spine with me'

To do list for the next half century

a few hours away
from something of a milestone
let's just say one degree north of the 49th parallel
i wondered what to do
to engage
commemorate
aside from a little bit teary
of what is here and dear and now
and what has come before
brushing some dents
petting some fur
unfolding a blanket and crawling beneath the sheets
a dog is busy barking
and i am busy
counting many blessings
